Season 4, Episode 401: Welcome Back!
Welcome Back!Season four is officially here, and your favorite book-loving duo, Kelly and Joelene, are back at the mic. If you’re wondering where we’ve been, the short answer is: recovering from our own ambition. Turns out, trying to devour books at warp speed while still enjoying them is a bit much—even for two self-proclaimed book junkies. Lesson learned: quality over quantity. This season, expect deeper dives, more thoughtful discussions, and fewer frantic sprints through 400-page business tomes. A New (Saner) Approach to the PodcastThe podcast isn’t changing dramatically, but the format is shifting. Instead of burning through books like there’s a literary apocalypse on the horizon, we are opting for fewer episodes per season with a focus on taking action from the lessons learned. Why? Because books deserve to be absorbed, not just skimmed. And, frankly, so do we. The goal? Less pressure, more passion. In past seasons, we’ve plowed through books at breakneck speed—highlighting, note-taking, and basically turning each book into a makeshift textbook. Now? We are leaning into a more reflective approach. We both agree: this new approach will lead to richer conversations, more engaging discussions, and—most importantly—less stress. Because as much as we love books, we don’t love the idea of turning this podcast into a glorified book report club. What’s On the Reading List for Season 4?First up for Kelly? “Add More Ing to Your Life” by Gabrielle Bernstein. A book she never would have picked up on her own (and for good reason). Let’s just say, she has thoughts—and they’re not all glowing. But hey, sometimes the best discussions come from books that challenge you (or mildly irritate you). Joelene, on the other hand, is kicking things off with “All In” by Arlene Dickinson—Canadian business powerhouse and Dragon’s Den star. She’s obsessed, and you can hear the excitement in her voice. Expect a passionate deep dive into this one. And because surprises are fun, we are both reading a mystery book together this season—one we accidentally picked at the same time. We’re keeping it under wraps for now (cue suspenseful music), but let’s just say it’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated episodes yet. The Books That Changed EverythingIn this episode, we reflect a little on past seasons. Discussing books that fundamentally shifted our perspectives. For Joelene, The Soul Sourced Entrepreneur by Christine Kane and A Quiet Life in Seven Steps by Susan Cain were life-changing. These books helped her embrace her introverted nature and rethink how she operates in business and life. Turns out, you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be successful. Who knew? For Kelly, Superfans by Pat Flynn was the game-changer. It solidified her belief that building genuine connections with a small but mighty audience is way more powerful than chasing social media vanity metrics. Facebook ads? Hard pass. Meaningful engagement? Yes, please. What’s Next?Coming up this season: more books, deeper conversations, and—gasp—potential video episodes?! That’s right, Joelene has officially gone on record saying she’s open to doing video episodes next season (someone write that down). Until then, we are sticking to the tried-and-true audio format and bringing their signature mix of wit, wisdom, and well-placed sarcasm to every episode. Oh, and don’t forget—Episode 7 is the big one. The book we’re both reading together. Will we agree? Will we argue? Will one of us abandon the book halfway through? Only one way to find out. Stay tuned, stay cozy, and happy listening!
