When TikTok Went Poof: A Wake-Up Call

This week's Page Turner

Hello Reader.

Well, that was something, wasn’t it? One moment TikTok was there, fueling trends and connecting creators. The next—poof—gone. Leaving creators and small business owners panicking, and wondering, What now?

Sure, it came back. But for how long? All politics aside, to me this feels like a crystal-clear warning for all online business owners. If your business depends on a platform that can vanish in an instant, I want you to think about how steady is your foundation, exactly?

Kelly and I have been talking about this for years and don’t feel that this is a “told-you-so” moment. But it for sure is a “let’s-be-smart-about-this” moment. Platforms are amazing tools—until they’re not. What happened with TikTok might only last a few hours this time, but there’s no guarantee it will stay. And even if it does, there’s no telling what changes it might bring with it.

Remember: Your business deserves stability. And stability doesn’t come from someone else’s playground. It comes from owning your audience, your email list, your website—things you control.

If yesterday didn’t give you a mini-heart attack, then you’re probably already diversifying where and how you connect with your audience. If it did? That’s okay, it is a reminder to start shifting gears. Imagine waking up tomorrow with zero access to TikTok, Instagram, or wherever you’re most active. For my American friends, you don’t have to imagine because it actually happened. Now picture your business still thriving because you’ve built a strong foundation outside of those platforms. That’s the goal.

So, do me a favour; today, take one small move toward owning more of your business. Start an email list, revive your blog, or even create a downloadable freebie. Something that’s yours.

Wishing you continued Success,
